Hastelloy® B-3 (UNS N10675 | W. Nr. 2.4600)

Hastelloy B-3, also known as Alloy B-3, is an advanced nickel–molybdenum alloy designed to withstand highly reducing environments. It offers improved corrosion resistance and greater thermal stability compared to its predecessor, Hastelloy B-2.

Key Properties

• Corrosion Resistance: Outstanding resistance to hydrochloric, hydrobromic, sulfuric, acetic, and phosphoric acids. High resistance to pitting, stress corrosion cracking, and knife-line/HAZ attack.

• Thermal Stability: More stable than Hastelloy B-2 during fabrication and service, minimizing risks of unwanted phase formation.

• Weldability: Excellent weldability using common techniques (TIG, MIG, SMAW) without post-weld heat treatment.

• Mechanical Properties (Annealed): Tensile Strength ~110 ksi (760 MPa), Yield Strength ~45–51 ksi (310–350 MPa), Elongation ≥40%.

• Physical Properties: Density ~9.22 g/cm³, Melting Range ~1330–1418 °C.

⚠️ Limitations: Not recommended for oxidizing environments or where ferric/cupric salts are present, as these can trigger rapid corrosion.
