Overview

UNS N06600 offers:

• Excellent oxidation resistance at high temperature.

• Strong resistance in carburizing and chloride-containing environments.

• High Ni content for performance in reducing conditions, immunity to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking, and resistance to many organic/inorganic media.

• Chromium addition for protection from sulfur compounds and oxidizing atmospheres (superior to commercially pure Ni in oxidizing service).

• Non-magnetic, high strength, very good workability and weldability; cold-forming behavior similar to Cr-Ni stainless steels.

Key Characteristics

• Broad corrosion resistance in both oxidizing and reducing media.

• Virtually immune to chloride-ion SCC.

• Adequate resistance to organic acids (acetic, formic, stearic).

• Excellent behavior in high-purity water (nuclear primary/secondary circuits).

• Scaling resistance at elevated temperature; resists ammonia-bearing, nitrogen and carburizing gases.

• Note: under alternating oxidizing/reducing cycles, selective oxidation can occur—choose procedures accordingly.

• Chemical & Petrochemical: TiO₂ (chloride route), VCM, perchloroethylene synthesis, MgCl₂ service, caustic alkali production.
